Application of PROGINICIN™ on bucal soft tissue

My use of PROGINICIN™ on soft tissue inside the mouth started in August 2005. Since then I have used PROGINICIN™ on at least 60 patients in my private clinic.

Twenty of the patients were treated in conjunction with placing implants. Ten patients were treated for extractions. Fifteen patients were treated for gingivitis. The product PROGINICIN™ was placed in the sulcus after full crown preparation on five patients. Ten patients were treated prior to sutures.

Results observed with implant patients

Of those patients treated with PROGINICIN™, during the placement of implants, ten received superior implants and ten received inferior implants. PROGINICIN™ was applied immediately after the implant had been inserted.

Two drops were applied directly to the open wound with simple instrument and left to remain in place without movement for about ten seconds. Then the treated wound was not rinsed or cleaned by other product. The patients were instructed to suspend the use of toothpaste or any product other than dental floss and toothbrush inside the mouth. The patients were asked to return after three days, for evaluation.

Patients with very large wounds (larger than 2 cm.) received an additional application of 2 drops when they came back for evaluation. The majority (55 patients) received no additional application of PROGINICIN™ as the wounds had healed to a very good extent during 3 days.

Many patients mentioned that the pain was reduced or eliminated after the product PROGINICIN™ was placed on the soft tissue. No patient had experienced irritation on the soft tissue treated with PROGINICIN™, or any other side effects.

PROGINICIN™ was effective regardless of whether the implants were superior or inferior. With treatment of PROGINICIN™ the period to achieve healing ranged between 3 to 5 days. Usually it takes 7 to 14 days to achieve the same grade of healing.

Before/After

Photographs showing the before and after of the gingiva after 7 days of implant surgery and treatment with PROGINICIN™. On this area, PROGINICIN™ was applied right after surgery. Note the absence of plaque and inflammation signs after only 7 days. No pain or bleeding was related by this patient on the next day of surgery.

Results observed with ulcer patients

As with the implant patients, two drops of the product PROGINICIN™ were applied directly to the open wound with simple instrument and left to remain in place for about ten seconds. The wound was not rinsed or cleaned. Instructions for mouth cleaning were the same as for the implants group. The wound healing period for ulcer sores was shortened by the same amount of time as with implant patients

Before/After

Results observed with gingivitis patients

In these cases, dental prophylaxis was performed first with the aim to remove some plaque debris. After prophylaxis, some drops of the product PROGINICIN™ were applied at all extension of the gingival margin which, at this time, presented inflammation with hyperplasic areas associated to gingival bleeding and unpleasant smell. Usually, gingivitis symptoms might be improved after one week, with correct dental hygiene using toothbrush and dental floss. However, with the use of PROGINICIN™ the main aspects of gingival inflammation, including pain, gingival bleeding and swelling disappeared in one day.

Gingivoplastic surgery is a common procedure for patients with hyperplasic gingiva. This intervention causes an inflammatory process which can be largely improved by the application of a few drops of PROGINICIN™.

Conclusion

The present report showed that the main aspects of mouth soft tissues inflammation including pain, gingival bleeding and swelling were largely improved in a shortened time, by the application of a few drops of PROGINICIN™. In addition, with treatment of PROGINICIN™, the period to achieve healing was notably reduced, demonstrating that it is an effective treatment option.
